Friday’s action will include the annual clash between the New Richmond Millers and the Osceola Braves at 7:30 p.m. This is a St. Croix Valley Baseball League game, which will be held at Citizens Field. Hatfield Park will also be hopping with activity all weekend, with the annual Fun Fest softball tournament being played.

Here is further information on each of the weekend sports activities.

Softball

The Fun Fest softball tournament at Hatfield Park is always a showcase of talent that brings teams in from a wide range. The tournament will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, with action resuming at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The final games should be starting at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tournament organizers were hoping to draw 35-40 teams, with the facilities to handle a maximum of 48 teams.

Willow River Run

This will be the first year the Willow River Run is being held on a Thursday. The 5K run/walk will be held at New Richmond’s Mary Park, with a 7 p.m. starting time. Registration is open through the New Richmond Community Education website, or participants can register the day of the race, beginning at 6 p.m. at Mary Park.

Proceeds from the Willow River Run will support trail map kiosks along New Richmond’s pathways. They also support a scholarship given to a New Richmond High School senior.

Fun Fest tennis

The annual New Richmond Open tennis tournament will be played Thursday through Sunday at the New Richmond High School tennis courts. There are a total of 97 entries in this year’s tournament. Events for 10-13 girls and boys, 14-17 girls and boys and adults of all ages, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, and parent/child doubles are part of the tournament.

New Richmond Millers

The Millers will wage their annual Fun Fest battle against the Osceola Braves on Friday night. The game will be played on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at New Richmond’s historic Citizens Field.

Soccer

There will not be a soccer tournament during Fun Fest because it is the state qualifying weekend for most area teams. New Richmond will be hosting soccer tournaments in the near future: July 29 with the annual 5v5 and the high school boys are hosting the first 3v3 event on Aug. 5.

The 5v5 tournament will be held for its 17th year. Age groups will run 9U through high school. Each team is guaranteed three games during the day with games running 32 minutes in length. Along with three games each player receives a tournament shirt to commemorate the day. Registration is $20 per player and awards are given for first place in each division. There is no maximum roster size but teams do need at least five players to play. Registration deadline is Friday, July 21 at 11 a.m. Register online at nrsoccer.com.

The first Kicking Hunger 3v3 Tournament is open to anyone interested in playing in a fun soccer tournament that helps support the local food shelf. Age groups will run 9U through high school.
