Bulls reach first NEFL title game

For the first time in the team's existence, the Northland Bulls have qualified for the Northern Elite Football League championship game.

The Bulls will host the Minneapolis Warriors at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the 2017 NEFL Elite Bowl for the league title at Ramer Field in River Falls. Ramer Field is the home field for the Bulls.

The Bulls advanced to the tile game with a 36-19 win over the River City Rough Riders on Saturday, giving the Bulls the league's Eastern Division championship. Minneapolis defeated the St. Paul Pioneers on Saturday for the Western Division title, 17-7. St. Paul had won the NEFL championship each of the past seven seasons.

Fans can watch Saturday's championship game online by going to the Northern Elite Football League page on Facebook.

The Bulls defeated the Rough Riders on Saturday behind an outstanding game from quarterback Brett Schreiner. He passed for four touchdowns and ran for another. He finished the game with 394 yards passing.

Bulls owner Brock Schreiner said his players are happy to reach the first NEFL title game, but they know they face an even bigger task in the title game.

"They're well-rounded, the most talented team we play all year," Schreiner said of the Minneapolis squad. "This will be our biggest test."
