Tiger dance team earns return trip to state meet

The New Richmond High School Dance Team is headed to state.

The Tiger dance team was named regional champion after taking first place in the kick competition division and second place in the pom competition division at the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches regional competition in Eau Claire on Saturday.

The first and second place awards qualify the NRHS Dance Team for state competion. This Friday the Tigers will head to La Crosse to prepare for the WACPC State Dance Championships at the La Crosse Center on Saturday.

The first of the Tiger competitions in La Crosse will come at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday when the team is scheduled to perform its pom routine. The Tigers will perform at 6:40 p.m. when they compete in the kick division.

The Tigers overwhelmed the other schools in the Division 2 kick competition in Eau Claire on Saturday. The Tigers earned a score of 508 with their kick routine. Mondovi, the second place team in the division, earned a score of 404.

In the Division 3 pom division the Tigers took second place with a score of 481. Onalaska won the division with a score of 506.

Tiger coach Ali Saliny said "our kick performance was so strong, so flawless that the entire gym errupted with applause. With our scores as high as they were for our performances we will head to La Crosse as a strong contender for a state trophy. As recent as last week we made some changes to our competition dances and with hard work, dedication and attention to detail, this team executed the new dances beautifully."
