Somerset fullback Vern Breault (33) charges toward the end zone for one of his three touchdowns in Friday's win over St. Croix Central.

The Somerset football team has advanced to the WIAA Division 4 state football semifinals.

The Spartans will face Bloomer in the state semifinals. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Friday at Gus Dorais Field at Chippewa Falls High School. Level 4 football tickets as on sale until 3 p.m. Friday at the Somerset High School athletic office. Tickets are $4 each.

This is a game many fans have been anticipating since the two teams met in the second week of the 2011 season. When the Spartans and Blackhawks clashed the first time, it took five overtimes for the game to be decided. It was Somerset which won that game, 20-14. Since then, Bloomer has won 10 straight games. Somerset is currently riding a nine-game winning streak.

Both teams advanced to the state semifinals with impressive efforts over the weekend. Somerset crushed previously unbeaten St. Croix Central 36-0 on Friday. Bloomer, champions of the Heart O'North Conference, mauled Nekoosa, winners of the South Central Conference title, by a 42-12 score on Saturday.
