Somerset's Haydon Dvorak (44) shown celebrating after the Spartans' win over Bloomer last week, was one of four area players to receive all-state honors.

Four local players were named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State Team, which was announced Monday.

Somerset had three of its players earn all-state honors. Senior linebacker Haydon Dvorak and senior tight end Ryan Himes were both named as first team All-State players. Junior Reggie Larson made the honorable mention list as an offensive lineman.

St. Croix Central had one player reach the all-state list. Junior Cody Nyhagen was selected as an honorable mention wide receiver.

All those players and a number of their teammates were also named to WFCA All-Region teams.

Somerset and the rest of the Middle Border Conference was part of the Northwest region while St. Croix Central and the Dunn-St. Croix Conference were in the West Central region.

Somerset's outstanding line play this season was reflected in the all-region voting. Larson was named on the offensive and defensive lines. Four offensive linemen were honored, with Himes at tight end, Larson at guard, Tyler Rosa at center and Derrek Tarter at tackle. Dvorak was an all-region inside linebacker.

Central's 11-1 season earned the Panthers four spots, including three players from the Panthers' high-powered offense. Nyhagen was selected as a receiver, Marcus Malecek as center and Korey Jacobson as a running back. The only member of the Panther defense to be honored was linebacker Michael Nelson.

A number of other players were recognized on all-region teams. Players honored from the Middle Border Conference include Parker Hines and Alex Campbell of Ellsworth, Nick Jacobson of Prescott, Ryan Seffinga and Nick Weisenbeck of Durand and Garreth Simpson and Kyle Johnson of Baldwin-Woodville.

The only other player from the Dunn-St. Croix Conference to be honored was Elmwood defensive back Logan Wolf. Hudson had two players honored, lineman Matt Strachota and defensive back Tyler Smrcina.

Simpson, Strachota, Johnson and Wolf were all selected as honorable mention all-state players.
