The New Richmond dance team put together another strong showing at the 2012 Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches state dance championships on Saturday in La Crosse.

In the Kick category, the Tigers brought home the fifth place plaque. In the Pom category the team placed seventh out of 16 teams.

The Tigers scored 373 points in their kick performance. This was a closely packed team competition, with West DePere winning the Division 2 title with 399 points.

Tiger coach Ali Saliny said these results were "outstanding considering our competition. The scores were very close, but we were pleased with our performance."

Three members of the NRHS dance team auditioned for the All-State team on Saturday. Athletes have to prepare and perform a solo in front of a panel of judges in their audition. Out of nearly 100 auditions, 18 were chosen for the All-State team. Seniors Rylie Berger and Antje Utgaard received the All State honor for the third time. Junior Taylor Holmquist was named to the All-State team for the first time.

"New Richmond has lots of talent and once again we were represented well at the state level," Saliny said. "These young women really deserve the recognition for their talent and dedication. It was well deserved."

The team will wrap up its season next month, with a few more performances at Tiger athletic events.
