Taking second place in the Middle Border Conference standings helped the New Richmond girls basketball team land three players on the 2012-13 all-conference team.

Junior Sydney Kannel was one of the six girls selected to the All-MBC first team. Tiger junior Mattie Kidder and sophomore Hannah Simpson were voted onto the All-MBC second team.

The Tiger trio produced the vast majority of the team's scoring, with all three girls capable of scoring in double figures in every game. Kannel ranked among the leading scorers in the conference season. She was also the main ball handler for the Tigers and she was one of the team's best defensive players. This is the second straight year that Kannel was a first team selection.

Kidder used her height and long reach to be a top post defender. She also displayed a soft shooting touch around the basket.

Simpson's progress gave the Tigers a more diverse offense. She excelled at slashing to the basket and she added to the Tigers' physical style with her defensive toughness.

Somerset had one player honored on the all-conference team this season. Senior Sadie Gilbertson was an honorable mention All-MBC selection. Gilbertson earned the honor after leading the Spartans in scoring this season.

The Somerset girls basketball team announced its team awards last week. Award winners this season were:

Most Valuable Offensive Player: Sadie Gilbertson

Most Valuable Defensive Player: Sarah Krig

Spartan Award: Anna Siggens
