Scott Cole becomes head golf pro at StoneRidge

Scott Cole (right) is shown instructing a youth golfer during the youth golf program at the New Richmond Golf Club last summer. Under Cole's leadership, the golf program grew from 40 kids a year to more than 180 kids each of the past two years.

As a two-time WIAA individual state boys golf champion for New Richmond High School and working as the assistant club pro the past 13 years, Scott Cole has been one of the most identifiable people at the New Richmond Golf Club.

Cole wasn't looking for a change from his position at NRGC when he was contacted by officials from Stillwater's StoneRidge Golf Club in November. StoneRidge, which was ranked as the number one public access golf course in the Twin Cities by Golf Week Magazine, was looking for a new club pro. Cole accepted the offer to serve as StoneRidge's new club pro in January. He began his position two weeks ago.“It's been a whirlwind of a winter,” said Cole, who also owns the Golf Cave indoor golf facility in New Richmond.
Cole will be in charge of golf operations in his new role at StoneRidge, which opened in 2000. Before getting the offer from StoneRidge, Cole was wondering whether he should continue working in golf or look for a job in some other line of business. Cole has a degree in advertising and marketing from Marquette University.“This was a sign,” Cole said of the StoneRidge offer. Cole, who earned his PGA Class A membership in 2009, said he is looking forward to the public relations side of his job, making the StoneRidge membership feel welcomed and excited about their course. StoneRidge is a semi-private club, similar to NRGC. Cole will also be looking to improve involvement in the youth golf program at StoneRidge, which is extremely low right now. Cole was the leader in developing the youth program at NRGC, which had more than 180 kids involved in each of the past two summers.
Cole said he will continue to live in New Richmond with his wife, Katie, and their two children.Cole is the most successful golfer in New Richmond High School history. He won WIAA individual championships in 1993 and 1995. In 1995 he broke the state individual record set by former PGA standout Andy North. Cole was part of WIAA team state championships won by New Richmond in 1992 and 1993. He was a four-time state qualifier as an individual and as part of the NRHS team.Cole then played golf at Marquette University. He continues to be a standout golfer. He qualified for the PGA Club Pro Championships last year, which were played in Oregon. He has also qualified for the 2014 PGA Club Pro Championships, which will be played in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
