Runners competing in the 2017 Willow River Run on Thursday couldn't have asked for better conditions to run in.
With overcast skies and temperatures hovering around 60 degrees, the conditions bordered on comfortable. And it showed, with numerous runners posting excellent times on Thursday.
Bailey Wilson, a 2016 New Richmond High School graduate, was the race champion. He finished in a time of 17:08. Running in second place was Wilson's long-time high school teammate, Austin Haseleu, who finished in 17:39. Brandon Mondor, a 2016 Somerset High School graduat, placed third in 18:05.
Fourteen-year-old Fiona Smith was the female chapion, finishing the course in 19:03.
This was the first year with several changes to the WRR. It was moved to Thursday evening, and the race was streamlined, with running a 5K as the sole option. A total of 100 runners completed the race.
