Thursday's Results: Tough night for local basketball teams

It was a tough night on the hardwood for the four local basketball teams that played Thursday night.

Both New Richmond teams suffered defeats, as did the Somerset and St. Croix Central boys teams on Thursday.

The New Richmond girls basketball team put up another good fight, but fell short on their home court, losing to Prescott, 59-55.

New Richmond's boys basketball team picked a bad time for its coldest shooting night of the season. The Tigers went to Baldwin-Woodville and were upset by the Blackhawks, 42-40.

The St. Croix Central boys basketball team fell victim to the Prescott Cardinals, the Middle Border Conference leaders. Prescott ran away from the Panthers, 91-64.

Somerset's boys basketball team led early in the second half at home against Ellsworth on Thursday. Ellsworth then slapped on a halfcourt trap defense that forced the Spartans into numerous turnovers. That allowed Ellsworth to pull ahead for a 79-62 win. Ty Madden led Somerset with 23 points.
