Somerset football now 4-0, New Richmond loses late

The Somerset football team improved to 4-0 for the 2013 season by winning on their homefield against Prescott, 30-0, on Friday night.

This sets up an early showdown for the Middle Border Conference lead. Somerset will play at Ellsworth next Friday, with both teams undefeated this season.

Prescott was effective in taking away Somerset's inside running game, but the Spartans were able to use several big plays to break the game open. A 69-yard dash by halfback Dallas Johnson was the Spartans' first score. They ended the game with scores of 50-yard run by fullback Max Praschak and an 85-yard run by quarterback Adam Marty.

New Richmond led Durand 7-0 at halftime and 7-6 after three quarters, but the Tigers couldn't find off the win at Durand.

Ellsworth finished with a 23-0 win over Amery.

In Dunn-St. Croix Conference games, Mondovi overpowered St. Croix Central 36-21, Glenwood City continued its huge offensive output with a 64-26 win over Elk Mound and Colfax knocked off Spring Valley 19-14.

In boys soccer played on Friday, New Richmond defeated River Falls 3-1.
