New Richmond football can't finish Homecoming upset bid; Somerset qualifies for playoffs

The New Richmond football team did its best to pull off a Homecoming upset, but fell short. Somerset was looking to lock up a place in the WIAA playoffs and a win at Amery on Friday achieved that goal for the Spartans.

New Richmond hosted unbeaten Ellsworth in the Tigers' Homecoming game on Friday. The Tigers led 10-7 at halftime, but Ellsworth was able to churn out three touchdowns in the second half rain, beating the Tigers 28-10.

Somerset earned its fourth Middle Border Conference win, locking up a place in the playoffs with a 42-14 win at Amery.

In other Middle Border Conference games, Durand topped Osceola 21-14 and Prescott drubbed Baldwin-Woodville 36-0.

In the Dunn-St. Croix Conference, Spring Valley topped St. Croix Central 25-7.
