New Richmond cross country sweeps MBC titles; New Richmond boys soccer advances, Somerset ousted

The New Richmond cross country teams achieved a rare sweep at the Middle Border Conference Cross Country Championships in Durand on Thursday.

The Tigers won all four team titles in the tournament. The Tiger boys and girls won the varsity and the junior varsity titles in the meet.

New Richmond's boys were led by junior Jack Utzman, who was the boys' meet champion. 

Senior Maddie Kelly led New Richmond's girls, placing second overall.

The New Richmond boys soccer team won the WIAA Division 2 regional championship on Thursday with a homefield 4-0 win over La Crosse Central. Brad Brusewitz scored twice in the victory, with Jack Hop and Mitch Giannini also scoring. The Tigers advance to next Thursday's sectional semifinal game, where they will face River Falls. That game will be played at 3:30 p.m. next Thursday in New Richmond.

The Somerset boys soccer team was upset on its homefield in the Division 3 regional final. Rice Lake knocked off the Spartans 4-0. Rice Lake moves on to the sectional semifinal, where the Warriors will play at top-seeded West Salem next Thursday.
