New Richmond volleyball reaches regional final, beats B-W in five-game thriller

The rematch is on.

Osceola edged out New Richmond for the Middle Border Conference volleyball title. The Tigers get another shot at the Chieftains this Saturday in the WIAA Division 2 regional championship match. The regional final will be played at 7 p.m. in Osceola on Saturday.

New Richmond qualified for the regional final by beating Baldwin-Woodville in a wild five-game match at the NRHS gym on Thursday. New Richmond won the opening game 25-14. B-W surged back to take the second and third games 25-19, 25-17. The Tigers regrouped in the fourth game, winning 25-17. The fifth game was a heart-stopper, with the lead changing hands several times. The Tigers trailed 13-12, but came back with the final three points to win 15-13.

This is the second straight year the Tigers have eliminated the Blackhawks from the playoffs. Last year, the Tigers were the sixth seed and they upset the Blackhawks in the opening round of Division 2 action in five games.
