Somerset, Ellsworth football teams advance to Round 3 of playoffs

The Somerset and Ellsworth football teams continued on their collision course, winning their second round games in the WIAA Division 4 playoff games on Friday night.

Somerset and Ellsworth will meet in Ellsworth next weekend. The game will be played at 7 p.m.

Somerset advanced to Level 3 by defeating Prescott 28-14 at Somerset's Seibel Field on Friday night. Ellsworth went to Black River Falls and won a shootout with the Tigers, 38-33.

Somerset will need to play better at Ellsworth than it did against Prescott. The Spartans fumbled the ball away five times against Prescott, continually putting the defense in bad positions. The defense stood up against a determined Prescott effort.

The Spartan offense was led by fullback Max Praschak and quarterback Reed Baillargeon. Praschak rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Baillargeon was inserted into the game in the first quarter and settled down the Spartan offense.

Somerset will be looking to avenge its only loss, a 27-8 to Ellsworth. Ellsworth is undefeated this season.
