The long tradition of success of the New Richmond High School dance team was continued in its 2014 conference meet on Saturday.

The Tigers earned the Middle Border Conference championship in the kick division at the meet on Saturday in Hudson. The Tigers took second place in the pom division.

The Western Wisconsin Dance Conference brings together teams from the Middle Border, Big Rivers and Dunn-St. Croix conferences for a day of competition. New Richmond competed against Somerset, Osceola, Durand, Prescott and Amery to win the conference kick title.

Five New Richmond team members were highlighted with all-conference honors. Senior Megan Chelberg was named to the all-conference first team. Harley Leavens, Erin Earley, Kailah Hartung and Jensen Hagen were selected as second team all-conference performers.

Hartung and Hagen were awarded top honors on Saturday, being named the Ensemble Champions for the Middle Border Conference. They competed among 12 ensembles for this honor.

The Tiger dance team will perform at three home basketball games in the upcoming days as it prepare for the WACPC Regional Competition. That meet will be held at New Richmond High School on Jan. 25.

“We know what we need to do in the next few weeks to prepare for the regional competition,” said Tiger coach Ali Saliny.
