New Richmond baseball team swept in season-opening double-header

It was a rough opening night for the New Richmond baseball team on Monday.

The Tigers faced Eau Claire at the Woodside artificial turf facility in Mauston. The Tigers were swept by the Old Abes, 13-3 and 16-4.

“We’ve definitely got some things to work on,” said Tiger coach Chad Fehrman. “The games were won by the better team.”

While the Tigers hit the ball with some authority, some struggles on defense and with pitching put the Tigers in a difficult spot. Fehrman said he did see promising pitching from sophomore Drake Durham and freshman Dante LaDuke.

This is a busy opening week for the Tigers. They are scheduled to open Middle Border Conference play on Thursday at Ellsworth. The Tigers will play their home opener on Friday against Hudson. The Tigers will also be at home next Tuesday, facing Baldwin-Woodville.
