New Richmond, St. Croix Central baseball teams eliminated

The New Richmond and St. Croix Central baseball teams were eliminated in the opening round of the WIAA state playoffs on Tuesday.

New Richmond lost to Eau Claire Memorial by an 11-3 score in the opening round of Division 1 action. New Richmond was the 10th seed in the Division 1 regional bracket and Memorial was the seventh seed. Memorial will now face Eau Claire North in the regional final at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Eau Claire's Carson Park.

St. Croix Central tried its best to upset Amery in the Division 2 playoffs. The Panthers scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead at Amery. Amery tied the game on a solo homer in the sixth inning before winning the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, 4-3. Central was the sixth seed and Amery is the third seed in the regional bracket.

Amery will now play at Somerset on Wednesday at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the second round of regionals. Somerset, the second seed, had a bye in the opening round of regionals.
