New Richmond powerlifters find summer competition

Showing off the awards they earned at the Midwest regional tournament for the World Association for Benchers and Deadlifters are New Richmond’s (l-r) Taylor Klemmensen, Marissa Harden, Alyssa Carver and Kyler Castano.

Four members of the New Richmond High School powerlifting team found a chance to get in some summer competition.

The four lifters competed in the Midwest regional tournament for the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters (WABDL) at St. Louis Park, Minn. on Saturday.

All four of the Tigers performed extremely well. Taylor Klemmensen, Alyssa Carver and Kyler Castano were champions in their weight class and Marissa Harden was second in her class.

Klemmensen brought home the most hardware from the tournament. Not only was she the champion in the bench and deadlift in the female 123-pound class, she was also named the best overall female lifter in the tournament. Klemmensen broke, then rebroke the teenage female deadlift record, with a final lift of 330.5 pounds.

Carver was the champion in the female 132-pound class and Castano took the top spot in the male 165-pound class. Harden finished in second place in the female 148-pound class. All the New Richmond lifters competed in the teenage division of the meet.
