Due to the extreme cold forecast for Saturday, some changes have been made for the plans for the Frozen Gnome Fat Tire Challenge in New Richmond.
Here is the information supplied by the Big Ring Flyers Bicycle Club and Race Team, the sponsors of the event.
"Due to the extreme nature of the cold predicted for tomorrow morning, we are altering the plan for the Frozen Gnome ride. Instead of two separate races, we will combine and run both at the same time, with the official start being at 10:15. I don’t think the numbers will be so great in this weather that there will be too many riders on the course at once, and the volunteers who will be standing outside in the cold will do so for half as long. It’s much easier to keep warm when you’re pounding the pedals, and a lot harder when you’re just standing on cold ground. Frostbite is a concern. I still think this can be a great event. We can’t control the weather, but we CAN control our attitudes and performance. So let’s show up and have a good time. More time spent socializing in Barley John’s and not as much out in the snow isn’t so bad after all. We want those that do show up who are not in the club, and those that read about this on social media after - to see that we know how to have good time. Here’s the new details: Race start time: 10:15, duration: 45 minutes. Registration and course marking volunteers, please arrive at 8:30. Timing and course marshal volunteers at 9:15. If you volunteered for an outside job but have changed your mind with the cold, please let me know. We have more than we need now so you may be able to just ride in the race, or stay warm inside. Please dress warmly, with extra inner layers, hand and feet warmers, and something to cover your ears and neck if you’re going to be outside.
