Adult ski lessons begin at Willow River State Park
Cross country ski lessons will be given from 9 a.m. to noon on four Saturdays: Dec. 15, Jan. 5, Jan. 19 and Feb. 16. Both the traditional diagonal stride and skating styles will be offered.
A limited selection of equipment may be available. Register in advance for lessons, which are also open to youth.
Instructor will be Wally Milbrath of Hudson, a competitor at regional ski races and a regular attendee at weekly dry land training sessions at the park.
Fees are as follows: Free to Willow River OWLs, the park's Friends group; $5 per lesson for others, or join the OWLs ($15 individual or $25 family).
Call the park office (715) 386-5931, to register.
For information on lessons for children up to teens, contact the Minnesota Youth Ski League, www.mysl.com, or call Beth Johnson (715) 386-2068.
If skiing is not possible on Dec. 16, instructors will give a ski waxing clinic and then take the group out for dry land training. Bring ski poles and appropriate footwear. Stretching, balance and strength training drills will be demonstrated.
Regular dry land training sessions will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Meet at the Nature Center. Dress for skiing and bring a headlamp. The sessions can run up to 90 minutes.
Wednesday sessions are likely to move to Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wis., when Troll Hollow trail is ready for skiing. For details, call the park.
