Fish experts go high tech to find best spots for muskies to spawn
Wisconsin fish experts used high technology to find the best places for muskies to spawn.
The Department of Natural Resources has come up with a computer model which will help identify the spawning areas which need the most rehab and protection.
The model is the result of a two-year study which analyzed musky habitat on two dozen lakes in the northern part of the state.
DNR fish crews, University of Michigan scientists, and members of the Musky Clubs Alliance combed the shorelines to find mating muskies.
Digital mapping software recorded the locations of each pair.
And the conditions in those spots identified the prime spawning places on other lakes.
