In this photo from the Historical Society's collection, John Moffat Hughes is seated at the piano with his three children. The group includes, from left, Mary, John, holding his son John Ingram, and Margaret. The children all were born in the Octagon House and were the fourth (and final) generation of the Moffat/Hughes family to grow up in the house.

The Friday Memorial Library was designed by architect John Steinmann, who showed his Frank Lloyd Wright influences in the final structure. The building turned 50 years old this week.

Betty Komula was one of many volunteers working to decorate the Victorian farmhouse at the New Richmond Heritage Center on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Three Christmas trees, one upstairs and two downstairs, were brought into the house. This year's theme is "Children's Christmas."
