Pepper Fest began in 1954 as a way to raise funds to build North Hudson Elementary School and has turned into an annual event to assist community organizations throughout the St. Croix Valley. Proceeds from the volunteer-run, nonprofit festival are donated to local youth, school, community and service organizations. This year's Pepper Fest is Aug. 18-20. Events include:

The St. Croix Crossing project has announced the full schedule of public paddleboat tour dates for 2016. The paddleboat tours through Stillwater-based St. Croix Boat & Packet allow area residents and visitors to view St. Croix Crossing construction close-up, WisDOT and MinnDOT have announced. The project will offer three tours per month. Wednesday tours will occur from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and again from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday tours will occur from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Events are scheduled for the following dates, rain or shine:
OAKDALE, Minn. -- The upcoming River Valley Wedding Fair will feature displays by more than 90 vendors, beer and wine-tastings, a fashion show and lots of opportunities to win valuable prizes. The fair will be held from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Prom Center in Oakdale, Minn. It is sponsored by the Rivertown Multimedia (Star-Observer is part of the group). Longtime Twin Cities radio personality, Teri Knight, will serve as emcee at this year’s event.
The St. Croix County Emergency Support Services Department, recently implemented the CodeRED mass notification system as part of its total 911 and emergency communications upgrade. The CodeRED alert system, which went live Aug. 1 will allow the county to quickly deliver alerts of major emergencies to targeted areas or the entire county via landline telephones, cell phones, wireless devices, and by voice, text or email.
RiverFest: Party with a Purpose, runs July 21 through July 26 with numerous activities to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the St. Croix River while also recognizing the need to preserve its health and beauty. Two popular events will return for the third annual RiverFest celebration — the Native American Celebration on July 21 and Croix Valley Community Band Concert on July 23. On Tuesday, July 21, at 7 p.m.
A kids fishing derby is scheduled Saturday, June 6, at Homestead Park on Perch Lake in the town of St. Joseph from 9-11 a.m. sponsored by the St. Croix County Sportsmans Alliance, St. Croix County Parks Department, Friends of Perch Lake and partners. The derby is for children ages 6-12. Mentors, bait and some fishing poles will be provided. There are prizes for all. Admission to the park is free.
