A man who scammed hundreds of thousands of dollars as manager of a Hudson liquor store has been sentenced to prison. Nathan Michael Dusek, 39, Knapp, will serve two years, six months in prison and five years extended supervision following his sentencing hearing Friday, May 4 on conviction of felony theft in a business setting. Dusek was convicted of stealing $381,284.75 while employed at Chicone's Liquor Mart over a 10-year period. The criminal complaint said between Aug. 25, 2002 and Nov.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's department was continuing the investigation of a stabbing incident in rural Somerset Sunday night. Sheriff John Shilts said Monday morning deputies were called to 1952 County Rd. I at 10:20 p.m. where Timothy P. Burdick, 41, had suffered multiple stab wounds to his legs and stomach. Burdick was evacuated to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. George Willie Elmore, 51, was arrested and taken to jail in the incident.
A man arrested 16 months ago in a child pornography investigation was convicted in St. Croix County Circuit Court Friday afternoon. Richard Lawrence Tereau, 41, St. Paul, who was a town of Somerset resident at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty to one count of felony possession of child pornography. The investigation of St. Croix County's most prominent cold case is about to heat up a little more. The murder of William S. "Junior" Clapp at 2:35 a.m. April 25, 1993, from a single gunshot wound at his rural Roberts farm house remains unsolved and the Wisconsin Dept. of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Special Assignments Bureau will aid the sheriff's department in the continuing investigation. Judge Eric J. Lundell differed from the recommendations of the prosecution and handed down a prison sentence for Elise D'Lynn Will of Hammond Thursday morning in a child abandonment conviction. "The public should be put on notice this is not acceptable," said Lundell and sentenced Will to three years in prison and seven years extended supervision. Prosecutor Frank Collins recommended 90 days in jail and a three year probation period.

A man facing felony charges in connection with a scuffle with jail deputies last week made an appearance in St. Croix County Circuit Court Tuesday morning, Jan. 17. A man led Minnesota and Wisconsin sheriff's deputies on a chase in a reported stolen car Thursday morning and remained at large in the early afternoon. St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts said Loren H. Phillips, 43, was the alleged driver of a stolen car taken from 787 Pine Ridge Terrace, town of Troy. The car was reported headed into Minnesota, and Washington County authorities located it. A River Falls man charged in the shooting death of a friend pleaded not guilty to two felony charges Friday afternoon in St. Croix County Circuit Court. Anthony Palmer Velure, 26, faces one count of a first-degree reckless homicide and one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a weapon, a charge that was added just prior to the 1 p.m. arraignment hearing July 22.
