Sheriff Dennis Hillstead was honored at a reception in the county board room at the Government Center in Hudson Tuesday afternoon. After 12 years at the head of St. Croix County law enforcement, he will hand the reigns of the office over to Sheriff-Elect John Shilts on Jan. 3.
Patrol Captain Scott Knudson has been named chief deputy in the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department. He takes over the position currently held by sheriff-elect John Shilts. Knudson was named following an interview process of eight candidates by a panel that included members of the county board Thursday (Dec. 9). The panel interviewed six individuals from outside the department in the process. The county board approved a measure earlier this month to speed up the process for filling the vacancy. An Illinois man has been charged with a crime for aiming a laser pointer at a helicopter last weekend near Somerset and will probably face federal charges. George A. Lubertozzi, 32, Bolingbrook, Ill., posted a $5,000 signature bond Monday on one count of reckless endangerment. The St. Croix County sheriff's report said Lubertozzi was arrested at 1:12 a.m. Sunday at River's Edge campground near Somerset after a Life Link helicopter traveling from Regions hospital in St.
