New Richmond High School One of the main attractions of the New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting and awards gala is the live cake auction with a live auctioneer. Local businesses get the chance to bid on cakes donated by local restaurants and community members, with the money going towards a good cause. Not only was this year's auction another big success, but it also gave New Richmond High School Culinary Arts students a chance to test out and refine their cake making skills.
This year's New Richmond High School STEM Night will be held from 5-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 13, and will feature several guest speaker presentations, a scavenger hunt and representatives from area businesses and colleges.

A group of Somerset High School students took part in a cooking show style competition on Wednesday, Jan. 18, as part of a multi-department collaboration project that was completed over a two and a half week period. "Susie Kadlec (the high school English instructor) and I decided that we wanted to collaborate on a unit together," said Family and Consumer Science instructor Kelly Emerson. "We sat down and decided we wanted do a cooking show and decided on doing a spin off with the show Top Chef.
Last spring, St. Croix Central Director of Teaching and Learning Glenn Webb heard that the Wisconsin DPI was considering putting together a program that would allow teachers to use the work they already do as part of the Educator Effectiveness Plan (EEP) as an alternative way to renew their license.
After having her novel, "Forgetting Him," published last year, New Richmond teen Morgan Ehlenfeldt was more excited than ever to continue writing, but she also felt like there should be a place for teens to safely share their works with other teen writers.
New Richmond, Somerset The sixth-grade Math Masters teams from New Richmond and Somerset recently competed at the New Richmond Middle School meet with students from Hudson and River Falls. Contestants worked on individual and team problem-solving challenges. Somerset's Breck Weldon and New Richmond's Cal Eckardt placed third and fourth in the Individual Problem Solving competition, respectively. New Richmond's Makayla Langeness and Somerset's Caeden Kreibich placed third and fourth in the Fact Drills competition, respectively.
Although he has only been principal at St. Croix Central Elementary since 2014, Pete Nusbaum has created a strong bond with both the students and staff he interacted with every day for the past three school years. However, with the approval of the school board at its Jan. 26 regular meeting, Nusbaum will be taking over residence of the St. Croix Central Middle School as the replacement for current middle school principal Scott Woodington this July.
Somerset Middle School On Thursday, Jan. 12, Somerset Middle School Principal Sara Eichten took over lunch serving duties for the fifth and sixth grade lunch period so cook/server Barb DeRosier could be the mystery guest at the perfect attendance lunch along with students Kennedy Harty, Mandy Baillargeon, Damian Wukowitz and Carson Peterson.
For the fourth straight year, the New Richmond High School Academic Decathlon team, which is made up of nine students competing in 10 different academic categories, took home the UW-Barron County Regional title. "For the fourth year in a row we won, practically lapping the field," said coach Jarrod Hamdorf. "We currently are ranked second in Division 2 and fifth overall in the state.
