New Richmond High School The New Richmond High School Science Olympiad team competed at the Boyceville Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3, and came away with a seventh place finish in the small school division, while finishing 13th among Wisconsin schools and 30th overall out of the 60 teams that participated. "We had a few events where we performed better than we expected to and the results have us encouraged that we are poised to make some noise this year in Division C (High School)," said coach Nicholas Filipiak.

The VFW Auxiliary to the New Richmond/St. Croix County Memorial Post No. 10818 received word Dec. 10 that Chloe Mare Jones' first-place Patriotic Pen Essay was selected to represent the whole of District 9. District 9 includes St Croix, Pierce, Barron, Dunn, Chippewa, Eau Claire, Clark, Pepin, Buffalo, Trempealeau and Jackson counties.
St. Croix Central St. Croix Central High School staff, as part of the staff-run Aid to Local Individuals Via Education (ALIVE) organization, will host a Holiday Tea from 5-7 p.m., Dec. 19, prior to the high school choir and band concert.

The Hammond Village Board approved a series of items at its Monday, Dec. 12, regular board meeting, including replacing the roof of the police department and creating a donation account for the cemetery, according to the meeting minutes provided by Village of Hammond Clerk Sandi Hazer. The approval of the replacement of the police department roof was approved unanimously by the trustees, with the proposal from Pete’s Construction in the amount of $22,823.40 being approved.

UPDATE 12/15 Cheryl Gromacki, 65, of Brookfield was wearing a seat belt when her Chevy Equinox crossed the median and struck two vehicles Dec. 12 on I-94 near Baldwin, according to a Wisconsin State Patrol news release. Gromacki was ejected from the vehicle and later died from her injuries at a Twin Cities hospital, the release states. An earlier State Patrol report indicated Gromacki was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. UPDATE 12/14
