The death of a man found on a sidewalk in Red Wing’s East End is being investigated as an apparent homicide, according to police.
Parts of southeastern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin were hit with several inches of snow overnight and Friday morning, Feb. 24, but accumulation dropped off quickly to the north, sparing the Twin Cities metro area from an anticipated messy morning commute.
Following a stretch of unseasonably warm temperatures in February, snow is back in the forecast. A winter storm is expected to blanket the region Thursday night, Feb. 23, through Friday with a foot or more of snow in some areas, according to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office. The weather service cautions it could be the strongest winter storm of the season. Much of central Minnesota including the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs as well as western Wisconsin were included in an updated winter storm watch Wednesday, Feb. 22.
It was a chilly morning Friday Feb. 3, but there was plenty of hot air on the E.P. Rock Elementary School field as multiple hot hair balloons were prepared to launch. The 28th annual Hudson Hot Air Affair runs Feb. 3-5, 2017 in Hudson. The balloon rally and winter festival — with the theme "Gone with the Windz" — will feature 30-plus hot air balloons and a full slate of family-friendly activities. Even in our higher latitude climate, exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun is dangerous, said Dr. Ryan Kelly, who practices family medicine at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing. “Exposure is affected by the distance from the sun, so areas on the equator receive a higher rate of ultraviolet light than other areas,” he explained.
Change into workout clothes, stretch out, warm up, cool down and wash off. Getting the recommended amount of exercise throughout the week can feel like a chore, especially after a long day at work or driving around on errands. Busy or not, physical activity remains an important aspect to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, said Martha Harris, healthy living director at Red Wing Family YMCA.
