A metro bus headed eastbound on Interstate 94 created a false alarm during Friday's morning rush hour. The bus was seen displaying “call police” on its overhead display, prompting two Washington County sheriff's deputies to respond. The bus was pulled over at 7:42 a.m. just east of Neal Avenue in Afton. According to a Washington County dispatcher, the display was the result of a malfunction. “There was no emergency whatsoever,” according to the dispatcher.

A former U.S. vice president and an influential environmental group waded in to oppose a U.S. Supreme Court case seeking to change development rules for a small parcel of land on the St. Croix River in the town of Troy. Attorneys for Walter Mondale and the St. Croix River Association (SCRA) filed an amicus brief last week with U.S. Supreme Court seeking to reject the case involving the Murr family, which owns St. Croix River shoreland land in the St. Croix Cove subdivision.

A 45-year-old Twin Cities man made his initial appearance last week in St. Croix County Circuit Court on allegations that he used a cellphone to record a boy showering during a 2015 incident at the Apple River Family Campground.
