On Feb. 10, the New Richmond Area Centre's gymnasium was filled with over 130 dads, uncles, grandfathers and friends dressed up with their special little ladies for a night of dancing and tasty treats. The dance has been held for seven years and each year brings a special experience for each couple. With a professional DJ playing music, the girls taught their dads some new dance moves, while the dads moved to a more classic beat. The event was sponsored by a grant from the United Way St. Croix. The United Way is a sponsor of youth, family, teen and senior programs at the Centre.
The $2.5 million capital campaign to triple the size of the Somerset Public Library — coined the Renew Somerset Library Campaign — will host a free launch event 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 22 at the St. Croix National Golf and Event Center, with area businesses featuring "A Taste of Somerset." Attendees will enjoy appetizers and beverages compliments of area sponsors, learn about the building expansion plans, find out what has been raised to date and receive an invitation on how to help if they wish.
The New Richmond Relay for Life will celebrate its 25th anniversary during in June with a dance party: Dancin' Through the Decades. The organization expects to see costumes and decorations from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's all the way to 2018. The event is set for June 8-9, with many fundraising opportunities and recognition events beforehand.
Steve is an 8-year-old Golden Retriever owned by Argosy University, Twin Cities Veterinary Technology Program Chair Dr. Julie Hansen. It will take dozens of teens to find out what is wrong with him. On Friday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m.-noon. Steve will be helping more than 40 students from Highland Park, Robbinsdale Armstrong, Hudson and St. Croix Central high schools diagnose his fictitious malady to learn more about careers in the field of veterinary medicine as part of Minnesota's statewide 4H Week.
"Intense but incredible experience" and "amazing," were comments heard from exiting participants of the area's first Mental Health First Aid Certification Training held at WITC.
Forward New Richmond, the Community Action Plan (CAP) committee formed to assist the City of New Richmond with updating its comprehensive plan, will host a community open house 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Champs Sports Bar & Grill. The public is encouraged to attend and view and comment on more than 30 community improvement concepts the committee has created during the last six months. A small sampling of Forward New Richmond concepts were presented to the City Council at a recent workshop.

Twelve members of the NRMS Math Counts team competed at Regionals recently in Eau Claire. Of the 153 mathletes from 14 different schools, New Richmond had two individual competitors place in the top 10: Ian Sheetz for placing ninth and Jovani Perez Sanchez for placing seventh overall. The NRMS A team made up of Sheetz, Perez Sanchez, Alex Jarchow, and Andrew Blattner was the first place team. The NRMS A team will now compete at the Math Counts State competition in Sheboygan on March 3.
New Richmond High School students took part in this year's Team Day competition on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Team Day was just one event of many that the school used to celebrate Ice Fest Week.
