New Richmond Middle School Wisconsin native and award-winning author, Stephanie Bodeen, recently spoke to New Richmond Middle School seventh-graders about her experiences as a writer and the publication process. She encouraged students to read and write as much as they can as well as work hard in school to become a better writer.
Area children got the chance to collect Easter eggs and have fun during a pair of events. The American Heritage Care Center hosted an egg hunt on April 8, while WITC-New Richmond hosted an Eggstravaganza event on April 6.
The Willow River Writers will host their second annual Author’s Showcase 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Friday Memorial Library. The showcase is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The Willow River Writers are a diverse group of local writers in its third year of meeting together. The group shares resources, encouragement, critiques and scribblings.
Hammond Community Library On Saturday, April 8, the library partnered with the American Heritage Care Center and hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for the children ages 2-8. Thank you for the wonderful donations that made this event a great success by Russ Davis Wholesale Inc., Hair Junction, Holiday Angels, St. Croix Electric, St. Croix Discovery Preschool, the SCC 4K classrooms, Hammond Snow Drifters, and Bag Man LLC.
April is a busy month! This week is National Library Week which was first sponsored in 1958. School, public and academic libraries all participate in this national observance. It's a time to promote how libraries are used and supported. From free access to all for materials, programs for all ages of the community, space to study, meeting rooms for crafters and classes, computers and printers, faxing, scanning, and free Wi-Fi to name just a few.
Business news Tammy Belisle and her team received the top honor of #1 American Family Insurance Agency in Wisconsin overall at the Spring Awards meeting March 17. The Belisle Agency earned the top home and auto producer in the state as well as the top overall application producer for 2016. Performance awards are not only based on sales but also excellent customer service. The Belisle agency scored an average of 9.30 out of 10 for customer satisfaction on the American Star Program, which is determined by their own customer's surveys.
The St. Croix County Fair, which will take place July 19-23 in Glenwood City, is accepting open class fair entries. Any and all ages and projects welcome. The St. Croix County 4-H Ambassadors have delivered the entry books to local libraries. Congratulations to Travis Messer, New Richmond High School junior, for being selected to the 2017 Badger Boys State June 10-17. Messer will represent the New Richmond community in an outstanding leadership simulation at Ripon College in June. New Richmond American Legion Post 80 sponsors a New Richmond High School boy to attend Badger Boys State as a participant.
St. Croix County is offering residents several opportunities to celebrate Earth Day during April by taking part in local, state and nationwide activities. "Earth Day is an opportunity to remind residents of the benefits of recycling and conserving our natural resources," said St. Croix County recycling specialist Megen Hines.
