St. Anne Catholic School The Somerset Knights of Columbus sponsored a poster contest for St. Anne's children in first- through fourth-grade. The contest theme was "The True Meaning of Christmas." Winners include: First grade: first place Matthew McGurran, second place Taelyn Mattren and third place Agnes Haase. Second grade: first place Josh Albert, second place Nick Carufel and third place Daniel Hanson. Third grade: first place Kelly Maier, second place Carson Belisle and third place Ava Plourde.
Hammond Community Library January is a time for renewal and revitalization. This year, the library will be and has undergone some changes. We have added two new staff members, Diane Timm and Beth Sippl. Coming up, we will be working on changing over the children's area so it is easier to navigate, as well as the movies. We have added a new program to be held monthly—Family Game Nights.
Hazel Mackin Community Library Written by Krissa Coleman is director at the Hazel Mackin Community Library in Roberts We are excited to be presenting a New York Times best selling author for the community at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18. Come to hear and learn from author Lori Evert, along with husband/photographer Per Breiehagen. Together they have published four books.
The first baby of 2017 born at Westfields Hospital & Clinic made his appearance at 11:33 a.m., Jan. 1, 2017. Jeremiah Krohn was born in the Birth Center to Christa Krohn and Maurice Thomas. Congratulations to Jeremiah and parents from everyone at Westfields Hospital & Clinic!
Somerset Elementary School students got the chance to decorate principal Dr. Chris Kamrath like a present after surpassing the school's goal for the Toys for Tots drive. The drive lasted three weeks and the students were shooting to beat the 145 gifts record they had set last year. The school collected 150 gifts by the end of this year's drive, with the help of the Somerset S.A.C. program, students, staff and their families.
WITC-New Richmond WITC-New Richmond's Power Sports program recently received two brand new Indian Scout motorcycle engines to use as teaching tools from Polaris in Osceola. According to WITC Instructor Dave Brown, the engines offer an excellent opportunity to show others what they'll learn in his program. It also aids in classroom demonstrations and discussions.
The St. Anne Catholic School second grade class recently visited the Minnesota History Center to attend a class on "Growing Up Dakota." The students learned what life was like for children in the mid-1800s and they also had a chance to explore a variety of artifacts.
