Eugene Fern, age 81 of Baldwin, Wis., died on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, Minn. Funeral services 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15 at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, in Baldwin. Visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 14 at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, and also one hour prior to services at church on Monday. Burial in the Baldwin Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
Lindsay (Baillargeon) Oveila, age 88, passed away in Harlingen, Texas on May 24, 2009. She was preceded in death by Hansel Baillargeon. She is survived by children Jan (John) Hess, Gary (Bonnie) Baillargeon, Joy Giese, Cheri (Jim) Gutting, Beth (Dick) Ulrich; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Anne Ochs, Olene Burkinshaw and Eleanor Johnson. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. prior to memorial service at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 8 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Somerset, Wis. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
Roger H. Peterson, age 64 of Sarona, Wis. and formerly of Star Prairie, Wis., lost his courageous battle against leukemia on May 29, 2009 with his loving family at his side. Roger was born on July 14, 1944 in Forrest, Wis. and later moved to Star Prairie where he would raise his family. Roger was one of five children born to parents Harland and Viola (Graese) Peterson. On Dec. 3, 1966, Roger was united in marriage with Bette Hawkins and their union would bless them with three sons: Brent, Kent and Chad. Roger worked at Andersen Windows for 35 years where he retired in 1999.
Wayne Kenneth Conrad, age 79, of Hammond, passed away in the early hours on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center. This comes after his hard-fought battle with cancer. Memorial services are planned for Thursday, June 4, at 1 p.m. at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. Pastor Gary Core from the Hammond Congregational UCC will officiate and the American Legion will present military honors. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial is at 3 p.m.
Paul Oscar Swenby, age 86, of New Richmond, Wis., died on Wednesday May 27, 2009 at his home. He was born on Feb. 25, 1923 to Oscar and Mary (Murphy) Swenby in New Richmond. Paul was a lifelong resident and real estate and insurance agent in New Richmond. He was the mayor of New Richmond for four terms (1955-1962). He was a New Richmond Public School Board member, Holy Family Hospital Board member, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.
Libby Ann Lee, age 59 of New Richmond, Wis., died on Thursday, May 21, at her daughter's residence with her loving family at her side. Libby was born on July 12, 1949 in New Richmond, Wis. Libby was one of seven children born to parents Willard Irvin and Elizabeth Mary (McDermott) Lee. Libby attended country school at the Wagon Landing Elementary School and high school at Amery High. On Aug. 14, 1965 at a ceremony in Des Moines, Iowa, Libby would be married to Ronald A. Baillargeon.
Priscilla Montpetit, age 79, of Somerset, Wis. has passed away. Priscilla was born on April 20, 1930 to Leo and Patty (Hattie) Hinz. She was preceded in death by her husband Archie Sr.
Matthew K. Thompson, age 43 of Houlton, Wis. and formerly of Roberts, Wis., died on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. after a long battle with kidney disease. A Service of Remembrance was held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation was held from 1-3 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, Wis., and the Countryside Crematory of Baldwin, Wis.
Gottfried S. Lamers, age 84, of New Richmond, Wis., passed away May 15, 2009. Gottfried is now reunited with the love of his life, Emma. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Bianca and many relatives and friends. He is survived by siblings Johanna, Hermann, Longin, Ina and Marichen; brothers and sisters-in-law; and also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mass of Christian Burial is at 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Church, 151 S. Washington Ave., New Richmond, Wis. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Bernard M. "Bennie" Matthys age 85 of Star Prairie died on May 12, 2009. He was born the son of Albert and Laura (Anderson) Matthys on June 28, 1923 in Barron, Wis. Bennie graduated from the New Richmond High School with the class of 1942. He served his country in the Army during World War II from 1943-1946 receiving the Bronze Star. Bennie owned and operated a Sporting Goods Store "Bennie's Bait" in Star Prairie. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #187, and American Legion Post 80, the Lions Club and the Boy Scouts. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and master gardener.
