Estelle K. Egan, age 91, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in Eau Claire, Wis., at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born Oct. 18, 1917, in New Richmond, Wis., to Estelle (Goodman) and William F. Quinlan. She was a legal secretary in the office of Doar and Knowles in New Richmond. She married Jean F. Egan in Monterey, Calif., on Feb. 20, 1943. They lived in California two years during World War II while her husband was stationed there. He was an instructor in field artillery in the Army. While there, she was a secretary in the Post Engineer's Office at Fort Ord.
Mary T. McDermott (Mickey), a longtime resident of New Richmond, died very peacefully in the presence of many of her nieces and nephews on May 2 at Boutwell's Landing in Stillwater, just after her 96th birthday on May 1. Many friends and relatives of Mickey knew her for her caring and loving spirit to relatives, friends and neighbors, for her very strong, long-time commitment to Immaculate Conception in New Richmond and her great cooking.
Marilyn Maybelle Beauvais, age 82 of Somerset, died on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Hudson Hospital. Marilyn was born on Jan. 14, 1927 in St. Paul, Minn. to William and Alice Salchow. Marilyn married Bernard Joseph Beauvais on Oct. 5, 1946 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Somerset, Wis. Their union in marriage was blessed with six children. For more than 20 years, Marilyn worked as an assembler with Andersen Windows. Outside of her work, she enjoyed going to the family cabin up north, fishing, bowling, golfing and bonfires at home.
Ruth J. Peterson (nee Heksem), age 87, of Hammond, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the American Heritage Care Center. She was born the daughter of John and Lena (Grant) Heksem in November of 1921. She attended country school for eight years and graduated from Hammond High School in 1939. In July 1943, Ruth was united in marriage to Lyle Peterson. They would be blessed with two daughters, Glenda and Darlene. They farmed for many years in Hammond, retiring and selling the farm in 2002. Her life revolved around being a full-time wife and mother.
James K. Bryant Sr., age 71 of Hillsville, Va., longtime resident of New Richmond and Clear Lake, died suddenly on April 18, 2009. He is survived by children: Dwight Bryant (Melissa), Tanya (Tammy) DeWing, James Bryant Jr. (Darlene), Gary Bryant, Terry Bryant, Gidget Leverty (Tim), Sabrina Jerlow (Steve), 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Memorial service was held in Hillsville, Va. on April 20, 2009.
Maria Monica Biddlecome (Aizu), age 68 of Baldwin and formerly of Watsonville, Calif., passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; seven children; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild. Private memorial services will be held.
William J. Kirsch died peacefully at age 85 on March 25, 2009 in Port Washington, N.Y. He is survived by his beloved sister Mary C. Goldsmith of Amery and by eight nieces and nephews and their loving families and by his close friend, John Battis. Bill was the son of John J. and Maude J. Kirsch and was born in St. Croix County, Wis. He graduated from New Richmond High School in 1942 and served his country honorably in World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Army's mechanized infantry. Bill graduated from Reed College in Portland, Ore.
Vernon Orf, age 88, of Cumberland and formerly of St. Joseph Township, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, Wis. Vern was born on Aug. 3, 1920 at the family farm in St. Joseph Township to Adam and Amelia (Kirchner) Orf. Vern was the youngest of 13 children. Vern graduated from Somerset High School, and continued farming with his brothers Harold and Clarence.
Julie Antonia Elizabeth Zezza, age 50 of North Hudson, died Friday, April 24, 2009. Julie was born on March 16, 1959; the daughter of Joseph and Jeanette (Larson) Zezza. She was raised in Hudson graduating from Hudson High School in the class of 1977. Julie enlisted in the armed forces where she proudly served in the United States Navy for 10 years, stationed in Virginia and Greece. She loved being outdoors and maintaining her flower gardens.
