NEW RICHMOND -- Dispatch called New Richmond Fire to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at the intersection of South Knowles Avenue and Second Street to perform clean up. While details were not immediately available, a south-bound pointing Ford pickup truck was seen partially atop the hood of a small four-door Toyota vehicle, which appeared to be heading northbound on Knowles Avenue. Two women were taken to the hospital Wednesday, Aug. 30 after their vehicle collided with a semi-tractor trailer in the town of Ellsworth. Pierce County Sheriff's deputies were notified of the crash at 11:43 p.m., which occurred at the intersection of Highway 10 and 610th Street. Initial investigation indicates a 2014 Honda CRV, driven by 73-year-old Sharon Ann Zielke of Glidden, failed to yield the right of way to a 2014 Freightliner operated by 66-year-old Steven J. Parson of Hammond, causing the Freightliner to strike the Honda.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding a man who fled from police Thursday, Aug. 31. Deputies recognized a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 63 near 730th Avenue Thursday, operated by 32-year-old Brian Tschida of rural Prescott. Tschida has a warrant out for his arrest. Deputies became involved in a vehicle pursuit after Tschida failed to stop when deputies tried to pull him over.
Trim-Bel Valley Dairy on Pierce-St. Croix Road near Spring Valley welcomed thousands of visitors to the 36th annual St. Croix County Farm City Day Saturday, Aug. 19. The farm, owned and operated by Jim and Lanette Harsdorf, along with their youngest son, Justin, welcomed visitors with hay rides, farm tours, a petting zoo, cheese curds with lunch, vendors and of course, ice cream.
Funeral services have been announced for Prescott Police Chief Gary Krutke, who died Saturday, Aug. 5 at Regions Hospital after battling cancer. According to his obituary listed on the O'Connell-Benedict Funeral Home website (formerly Hill Funeral Home), funeral services for Krutke will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 at Prescott High School (1010 Dexter St., Prescott). A burial with full military honors will take place at a later date at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.
The long-awaited St. Croix Crossing bridge connecting Oak Park Heights, Minn., and the town of St. Joseph, Wis., opened to traffic at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2. The 86-year-old historic Stillwater Lift Bridge will close to traffic at the same time. KNAPP -- Three people died in a fiery crash Thursday evening, July 13 on Interstate-94 between Baldwin and Menomonie. According to a news release, at about 5:44 p.m. the Eau Claire State Patrol Post received multiple driving complaints of a black vehicle that crossed the median and traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near milepost 37 at a high rate of speed.
HUDSON -- A Menomonie man suffered life threatening injuries after a semi-tractor pinned his vehicle against a cement barrier on Interstate 94 in Hudson Saturday, May 20. The Wisconsin State Patrol responded to the crash around 1 p.m. near mile mark 1 in St. Croix County.
MADISON -- State lawmakers want more of a say in a trust fund for veterans' benefits, after $55 million were transferred to that fund from the King Veterans Home. The Joint Finance Committee voted unanimously Thursday to make the veterans' agency notify the panel about proposed fund transfers, giving lawmakers two weeks to object. The fund transfers from King happened while the facility was delaying $20 million in needed maintenance work.
