After Black Friday, don't forget about Small Business Saturday

After plumping up on turkey and trimmings on Thanksgiving Thursday, and shopping for national chain deals on Black Friday, local mom-and-pop shops are hoping New Richmond-area residents will also observe Small Business Saturday.
“Black Friday isn’t the only big day in the retail world this week,” said Lisa Woletz, executive director, New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce. “I just want to remind everyone to shop small on Saturday, Nov. 30, and support the small local retailers. Let them know that their businesses are important in our community, and they are necessary to make our community tick.”
According to the Shop Small page on Facebook, “Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country”
The Saturday-after-Thanksgiving annual event was created by American Express in 2010.
“It’s a very basic concept, and every dollar that is spent in the New Richmond area stimulates our local economy and makes us a thriving area,” Woletz said.
Debbie Morales, owner of Heidi’s Hallmark stores in Hudson and New Richmond, and Bean Bag Coffee House shops in Somerset and New Richmond, said she hopes the idea of Small Business Saturday catches on.
“I don’t know that I feel the impact of it yet, but I feel we are supported by our local people,” Morales said. “They say they want to shop in town to keep the businesses going, and that’s what they do.”
