St Croix Farm Bureau annual meeting celebrates service
BALDWIN — St. Croix County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Baldwin American Legion in Baldwin.
During the meeting, members discussed a wide range of issues including food labeling, livestock guardian animals and county zoning. Resolutions passed during this meeting will be forwarded on for consideration by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation's policy development committee. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau is often asked to get involved in issues affecting agriculture and rural Wisconsin both in Madison and Washington D.C. As a grassroots organization, it is Farm Bureau's members on the county level who create and set the policy goals of the state's leading farm organization.
Lexi DuSell joined the board of directors as the new Young Farmer and Agriculturist Chair. During the meeting, delegates were also elected to attend the Wisconsin Farm Bureau's Annual Meeting in December to represent St Croix County Farm Bureau. Delegates to the 2018 WFBF annual meeting will be Dave Kruschke, Dean Mueller and Leslie Svacina.
In addition to the regular business at the St. Croix County Farm Bureau annual meeting, Dennis Hurtis was awarded the St. Croix County Farm Bureau Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award to honor all the work that he does for the St. Croix County Fairgrounds. Hurtis is the go-to man at the St. Croix County Fairgrounds and is well known there. Besides his many hours of service at the fairgrounds, Hurtis is the commander for the American Legion in New Richmond and serves on the honor guard.
