Hammond Library Column: Starting off the new year with exciting programs

We are starting off the New Year here at the library with a year filled with exciting programs for all ages. From book groups to monthly get togethers with coloring groups and STEM activities at the library you will be sure to find something that you will want to come on in and visit for and bring a friend along!

NEW this year: Book Bundles — Several books are bundled together, some with a special surprise, but all with a few books that fit a theme for both adults and children.

Monday, Jan. 8, at 6:30 p.m.: Embroidery Hoop Snowman, paint a snowman to display inside an embroidery hoop, a fun and simple way to brighten your home this winter.

Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m.: Chalkboard inspired winter painting. You will create a canvas artwork that looks like a chalkboard, but will not erase. The Friends are putting this event on; there is a small charge for the materials. Registration is appreciated, but not required.

Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m.: Special Story-time: Once Upon a Time — Tonight is about princesses, princes, frogs, pigs, etc. as we read special fairytales and enjoy a craft afterwards. Feel free to come dressed as a princess or prince, or a favorite fairytale character.

Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m.: Coloring and Dot-to-Dot Night. Use what the library has, special adult coloring books, extreme dot-to-dot's, markers, colored pencils, gel pens, etc. or bring in what you are working on. Enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate as you take this evening to relax and color.

Thursdays, Jan. 11-Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., A Chapter-A-Week Book Discussion of "Present over Perfect" by Shauna Niequist. Come and "be present" as you explore this insightful book as a group. The library will supply a copy of the book for you to use during this on-going book discussion.

Thursday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.: Cozy Book Club meeting. For the month of January the theme for your cozy mystery is "cold", something cold, a location, a hobby, etc. Then come share with the group your likes and dislikes about your book.

Thursday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m.: Special Story-time — Eric Carle themed: Explore the world of Eric Carle through his stories and art.

Thursday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m.: Winter Fun Night. Have fun with a winter scavenger hunt, games, art, and music at the library while you enjoy some winter refreshments.

Thursday, Jan. 25, at 6:30 p.m.: STEM Night. For the month of January we will explore STEM activities that are winter related. Grades 4K-7 come and explore our Winter themed STEM activities.

Monday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m.: Book Speed Dating. Yes, you can "date" as many "dates" as you would like tonight. Enjoy refreshments and a little pampering as you meet your "dates" this evening.

Coming up in February watch for new programs like, Daytime Artists, Brain Building, Stretch and Coffee, plus our paint and sip nights, special themed storytimes, family events, and so much more.
