Hazel Mackin Library Column: The more you check out, the more your library can do for you

I know January feels like settling into the deep freeze of winter and all we want is cozy blankets, a warm fire and the latest series on Netflix. Although Netflix is fairly inexpensive, library materials come at an even better price—FREE.

In case you didn't know, the county library funding actually comes from materials checked out. The more items you check out, the more funding libraries get—especially if you live in a township. When your child hopes they can check out the big stack of books they found and they keep adding more, you are actually helping us move forward as a library. Don't forget to grab a puzzle to check out too in case you just want to hunker down and stay in the house all weekend!

Time ticks away fast so I want you to know Valentine's Day will be here soon. Although many think it's just a Hallmark holiday, there is always something special about giving a homemade card to remind our friends and family of how much they mean to us. We have a Card Workshop at 6 p.m. Feb. 1. All materials will be supplied and this class is open to novices and experts alike. Snacks will also be provided. Please call the library to register, for ages 16 and up.
