On Tuesday, April 24, thousands of ordinary people just like you did something extraordinary. You opened your wallets and checkbooks, read off your credit cards and typed in your routing numbers and together you raised $277,490 for 73 nonprofit organizations scattered throughout Polk, St. Croix and Pierce counties and you did that in 24 hours. You gaveBIG!

Your generosity prompted emails like these.

"Because of you, we are able to help build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter to families that just need a hand up not a hand out! YOU are making a difference!! THANK YOU!"

"Thank you for giving the priceless gift of independence to seniors and adults with disabilities living in Polk County, WI. Your gift makes rides, visits, chores and smiles. Your generosity helps your neighbors keep their independence, dignity and quality of life in their own home."

"Your support helps us to respond with compassion and proper care for the animals that come to us. With your help, we are also able to help others in our community by offering a spay/neuter program for low income households. Again, THANK YOU for giving the animals in our care a better future."

"With your gift, we are able to connect more people to the St. Croix and achieve our vision of a thriving watershed, forever accessible, scenic and wild. Thank you for making a contribution!"

Jessica Neumann, giveBig SCV Program and Development Director, provided some information to help put your big give into perspective.

In 2017, giveBigSCV raised $252,000 on behalf of 52 participating nonprofits.

Of the 73 participating nonprofit organizations this year, 25 were first-timers.

Total matching dollars was $76,490, up 12 percent over 2017.

One of the goals of giveBigSCV is to build awareness of local nonprofits that serve our communities. This year 70 percent of online donors were new to the event.

According to Neumann the preliminary plan for next year is to expand to include more of Polk, St. Croix and Pierce counties including the communities of Hudson, River Falls and Balsam Lake.

"We are very grateful for everyone that supported giveBIG St. Croix Valley in any number of ways. From sponsors to donors, volunteers and business partners, it took everyone working together to make this day possible. The combined effects will have a long lasting impact on our community. By giving together, we grow stronger, more vibrant communities," Neumann said.
