Collections being accepted for Love Baskets

Love Baskets is starting its 2016 Christmas season.

Love Baskets is a joint effort of churches in the New Richmond/Somerset area paired with The Salvation Army and Toys for Tots.

It provides gifts for families that otherwise would not be able to afford them for their children.

Families are referred by schools, human services agencies, churches, friends and neighbors. Applications are available through the schools and also at places such as the food shelves, libraries and human services.

There are many ways to help. Toys, books, warm hats, mittens and scarves are collected at area businesses and churches in designated boxes. Individuals and organizations are also encouraged to sponsor a family by calling 715-246-4508. Monetary donations may be sent to P.O. Box 142, New Richmond.

Recipients will be matched with sponsors or will receive bags of gifts collected from the community collection boxes. All will be distributed at a Christmas party hosted by The Salvation Army at the Somerset Middle School Sunday, Dec. 18. Volunteers will provide fun activities and snacks for the participating families.

The community is invited to participate either by donating, sponsoring, helping with packing or helping with the party.

For more information, call 715-246-4508.
