Heartland Days kick off with community dinner Aug. 10

This year's Hammond Heartland Days will start on Thursday, Aug. 10, and continue through Sunday, Aug. 13. The festival will include the annual grand parade, the Miss Hammond Royalty Pageant, the Community Appreciation Dinner and the 30th annual car show.

The festivities kick off on Thursday with the Community Appreciation Dinner and the pie and ice cream social in the park. The Heartland Days grand marshal and Heartland Award will be presented during the event. The night will round out with the Baby Show at 6 p.m., live music from Boston Haas at 6 p.m. and the Fireman's Kitten Ball Tournament at 6:30 p.m.

Friday marks the start of the Heartland Days softball tournament, as well as live music from the Shalo Lee Band in the park.

Another of the main attractions for this year's Heartland Days is the United Fire & Rescue Hammond Station 30th annual car show, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12. Registration starts at 8 a.m., with awards being given out at 2 p.m. There will be special prices in honor of the 30th year.

Also taking place on Saturday is the Trinity Youth Pancake Breakfast from 7-11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by the Mulligan Open golf tournament at the Hammond Golf Club, which features a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The craft and vendor show on Charlotte Street — which will feature a scavenger hunt — will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along with the Hammond Community Library's book sale, which will be held at the library.

The 3 on 3 basketball tournament will go from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the high school. An arts and crafts show will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Veteran's Park next to the library. There will also be a Kidz STEM Station in Veteran's Park as well. A Euchre tournament will start at 1 p.m. in the park, with sign up starting at noon. The night will come to a close with the Hammond Lions Tractor Pull, which will start at 7 p.m., and live music from Tempted Fate at 8:30 p.m. in the park.

The annual grand parade will start at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, on Davis Street and will be followed by live music from the Ricks Duo in the park. A free family carnival will take place at the Trinity Lutheran Church following the parade. A kids pedal pull will take place at 3 p.m., with registration at 2:30 p.m.

The Miss Hammond Royal Pageant will finish off the weekend, with a 5 p.m. start at the high school.
