St. Croix County Board seeks names for District 8 appointment
Officials are still seeking someone to represent District 8 on the St. Croix County Board.
The position represents voters in Erin Prairie, Wards 2 and 3 in the Town of Richmond, Ward 2 in the Town of Stanton and Ward 12 in the City of New Richmond. It is one of 31 elected seats on the St. Croix County Board.
During the recent spring election, there were no official candidates for the District 8 post, which was previously held by Tom Dowd. The top write-in vote getter in the April election declined to accept the seat.
As a result, state statutes call on the County Board to appoint the empty position, according to County Clerk Cindy Campbell.
County Board Chairman Roger Rebholz is collecting the names of potential appointees from the District. Anyone who might be interested in serving on the County Board, or knows of someone who would be a quality candidate, is encouraged to call Rebholz at 715-386-4605 or Campbell at 715-386-4610.
Deadline for submitting candidate names is May 15.
Rebholz said he's talked to one potential candidate so far, but would welcome more suggested candidates.
"I'd like to have a couple more names, so then we'll have a choice," he said.
Depending on potential candidates being identified, Campbell said the appointment issue could be on the May 20 County Board agenda.
"It would be nice to have that seat filled at that point," she said.
The eventual appointee will serve the unexpired portion of the 2008-2010 term. The eventual appointee will be confirmed by a majority vote of the County Board.
