The following message was sent out to the district at 3:51 p.m. declaring the water main break repaired and that school will run as normal on Tuesday, Jan. 12:

At this time I am pleased to report that the water main break has been repaired and we will run a normal schedule tomorrow (Tuesday-January 12, 2015).

Thank you to New Richmond School District Maintenance Department and the City of New Richmond Water Department for your efforts to repair this break.

My apologies to all parents and guardians for any inconvenience this may have caused your morning schedule. We notified all families as soon as it was determined that we would have to shut down the main water source to the school.

We look forward to seeing all our Middle School students back in the building tomorrow.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter!

New Richmond School District

New Richmond School District Superintendent Patrick Olson sent out the following email to district staff on the morning of Jan 11, futher elaborating on the closure of the school due to a water main break.

I wanted to let everyone know that we had to cancel classes for today at the Middle School due to a water main break in the back of the school. This break was first discovered at 6:30am but we did not know the extent of situation until closer to 7:00am. At that point we needed to shut off the main water line to the Middle School. The decision was then made to cancel classes due to lack of water for bathrooms and food preparation.A message via phone/text/email was sent to parents at 7:05am using our Blackboard Connect System (Emergency Notification System).Buses were called back after the Elementary drop off to take students back home. I am happy to report all students are accounted for and have a place to go for the day.Staff will still report and an in-service day has been planned.Thank you to the Middle School Administration and Staff for standing out in the cold and letting parents know of the situation and for providing help in this untimely event. Thank you also to those middle school staff members that were sent to other buildings to fill in for the three un-filled sub positions we had today.
We have maintenance crews and contractors working on fixing the problem. At this point we are not sure of the timeline but I will send out more information as it becomes available.Thank you,Patrick B. OlsonDistrict AdministratorNew Richmond School District
