Soderberg named new SCC High School principal

Kurt Soderberg

St. Croix Central Superintendent Tim Widiker announced this week that the Board of Education approved the appointment of Kurt Soderberg as high school principal effective July 1. This decision caps a six-week process that began when Dr. Glenn Webb was approved by the school board as the next Director of Teaching and Learning.

Kurt Soderberg comes to St. Croix Central High School from Merrill High School where he has been the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal for the last nine years. Soderberg’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Stevens Point, Master of Science Degree from South Dakota State University and Principal and Director of Pupil Services Certification from Marian University.

Soderberg’s family is excited to be moving to the SCC School District. His wife, Paula, and he have three children. Kennedy is a senior at Merrill High School and will be attending UW-Madison next fall. Sons William and Griffin will be in tenth and ninth grade, respectively, at SCC.

“As a leader, I have two areas of focus. First, I believe in building strong trusting relationships with the staff, students and families throughout the building, district, and community,” Soderberg said. “This type of relationship can only be cultivated through sincere interactions, empathy, and honesty. Secondly, it is my responsibility to model an attitude of servant-leadership. I have found my greatest personal satisfaction and professional success when I approach each situation from the position of serving others.”

St. Croix Central received 42 applications for the high school principal position. Three candidates were recommended as finalists and were interviewed a second time by the SCC administrative team. Soderberg was the administrative team’s top candidate and was recommended to the SCC school board for approval at the May 2 board learning and special meeting.

“I am very excited to be joining a district so clearly committed to academic and personal excellence for all. My family and I are looking forward to joining the Panther family,” Soderberg said.
