St. Croix Central School District welcomes new staff

St. Croix Central School District will add several new staff members and teachers to its roster for the 2016-17 school year.

To help you identify the new faces out and about in the community, the following are brief profiles and photographs of each new SCC staff member.

Kelsey Criego

Age: 24

Family: Parents: Todd and Patty Criego; sisters Nicole, Jessica and Samantha; partner Zack Gillis. Kelsey Criego

Position in district: fourth-grade teacher

Education: 2010 SCC graduate. Undergraduate degree from UW-Whitewater in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish in 2014.

Previous work experience: Taught third grade at St. Croix Falls Elementary School for two years.

Hobbies and pastimes: I enjoy gardening, being active and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy baking, being outdoors and trying new things.

Jessica Parsons

Age: 23

Family: Husband, Aaron.

Position in district: first-grade teacher Jessica Parsons

Education: Graduated from UW-Eau Claire in May.

Previous work experience: This is my first teaching job. I have worked in many roles of childcare through coaching, counseling at summer camp, daycares and nannying.

Hobbies and pastimes: I love adventuring outdoors with my husband, running, shopping and traveling.

Tessa Feyereisen

Age: 26

Family: Parents, Randy and Jana Feyereisen; brothers, JP and Jeremy. Tessa Feyereisen

Position in district: middle school Phy. Ed. teacher, high school health teacher and C-team girls basketball coach.

Education: University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Previous work experience: Substitute teacher in Hudson, River Falls, South Washington County School Districts. JV girls basketball coach at River Falls High School.

Hobbies and pastimes: Kayaking the Kinni, watching all sports including basketball, baseball, football and spending time with friends and family.

Amanda Bishop

Age: 40

Position in district: Special education teacher at the middle school Amanda Bishop

Education: BS Special Education started at UWRF, completed degree at Utah State University.

Previous work experience: Six years as a paraeducator at Menomonie High School, two years teaching at Osceola, four years teaching at Woodland Elementary in Barron.

Hobbies and pastimes: Coffee — volunteering as a barista in a non-profit coffee house. Spending time with family, including my nieces, nephew, great nieces and nephews.

Jenny Cicha

Family: Husband, Chris; children, Carly (fourth grade) and Cole (first grade)

Position in district: first-grade teacher Jenny Cicha

Education: Early Childhood Education (birth to third grade), UW-Stout

Previous work experience: Eight years preschool teacher in Roseville, Minn.; 13 years kindergarten teacher at Trinity Academy in Hudson.

Melissa Gessler

Age: 36

Family: Husband, Ray; two daughters, Halle (fourth grade) and Emma (kindergarten) Melissa Gessler

Position in district: kindergarten teacher

Education: Bachelor degree in Elementary Education with a double minor in Early Childhood and Communicative Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

Previous work experience: Taught preschool for several years after college before moving on to teach kindergarten at a private school in Woodbury. Then I took leave to stay home with my two daughters and returned to teaching as a sub at St. Croix Central, fulfilling a long-term sub position for second grade. Last year, I was a 4K teacher for the district at Discovery Preschool in Roberts.

Hobbies and pastimes: I love spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy time in the outdoors. In the fall, I spend my free time bow and gun hunting deer. During the winter months, my family and I love ice fishing for panfish and when spring/summer rolls around, I can be found turkey hunting or catching salmon on Lake Michigan.

Kurt Soderberg

Age: 46

Family: Wife, Paula; children, Kennedy (18), Will (16) and Griffin (15) Kurt Soderberg

Position in district: High school principal

Education: BS — UW-Stevens Point; MS South Dakota State University; Principal/Pupil Services — Marian University.

Previous work experience: Associate principal — Merrill High School; teacher — Marquette University High School.

Hobbies and pastimes: Sports, reading and family.

Jessica Muehlbauer

Age: 24

Family: Partner, Colton.

Position in district: School psychologist Jessica Muehlbauer

Education: BAS — University of Minnesota-Duluth; MSE — University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Previous work experience: Practicum student — Onalaska School District, Westby Area School District; Counselor — Northwood Children’s Services.

Hobbies and pastimes: Hiking, cooking and reading.

Shelby Hicks

Age: 31

Position in district: K-4 math and reading intervention teacher Shelby Hicks

Education: BA in Elementary Education at St. Mary’s University; K-12 reading teacher/MA in Literacy Education at St. Mary’s University.

Previous work experience: 2015-2016 — Reading intervention at Sunnyside Elementary in Red Wing; 2010-2015 — Second-grade teacher at Sunnyside Elementary; 2009-2010 — Kindergarten teacher at Scandia Elementary in Scandia, Minn.

Hobbies and pastimes: Reading, running, spending time with friends and family.

Jill Severson

Age: 59

Family: Husband, Dennis; children: Jacob, Emmalie (son-in-law Kyle); Matthew, Seth, Silvia and Nathaniel. Jill Severson

Position in district: teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing

Education: BS degree from UW-Stout — Vocational Rehabilitation; MS degree from UW-Milwaukee — Exceptional Education.

Previous work experience: CESA #4 — Teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing (2006-2016); CESA #4 — Educational interpreter (2004-2006).

Hobbies and pastimes: Reading, singing, playing guitar, writing, spending time with my family.

Jenny Schwartz

Age: 30

Family: Husband, Cal; kids: Alexis (11), Mason (2), Aubree (7 months). Jenny Schwartz

Position in district: SLD, Special Ed.

Education: Communicative Disorders from UW-RF; Special Ed. from UW-Stout; Teaching degree from UW-RF

Previous work experience: five years teaching kids on the Autism Spectrum at Hudson.

Hobbies and pastimes: Horseback riding, crafting, playing with my kids, gardening.

Jordan Willi
Jordan Willi is a reporter for the New Richmond News. Previously, he worked as a sports reporter at the Worthington Daily Globe in Worthington, Minnesota. He also interned at the Hudson Star Observer for two summers and contributed to the Bison Illustrated sports magazine at North Dakota State University.
