Bagpipe player Kieran Dulloux preceded members of the American Legion Butler-Harmon Post 80 color guard getting the New Richmond Middle School's Veteran's Day program off to a stirring start before a standing room only audience Friday morning, Nov. 10.
Student speakers Abigail Johnson, Olivia Burns and Charlie Olson reminded the audience that the sacrifice of veterans past and present should always be honored, an invaluable reminder that freedom isn't free.
Key Note speaker, Iraq War veteran, Sgt. Sean Lybeck, shared from his experience bringing history to life and putting a face on the cost of conflict.
Veterans and audience members were treated to patriotic tributes by the NRMS Eighth Grade Choir, Band and Orchestra including a program concluding a rendition of Taps by Band Director Mr. Mealey joined by eighth grade trumpetists Grace Brewer, Connor Dean, Zach Lekander and Austin Marx.
Following the program, audience members joined veterans for refreshments and a tour through the Veterans Museum, a tradition started by former NRMS teacher Matt Friedl.
