The New Richmond Middle School Math Counts team has been busy competing at area pre-regional competitions, including a Jan. 9 meet at Hudson and a Jan. 17 meet at Rice Lake. Coaches Maria Miller and Liz Rasmussen helped prepare the students to compete in this year's meets.
The team participated in the Hudson pre-regional meet with 80-plus students from surrounding area school districts.
Individual Countdown Rounds were held with the top three or four individuals from each school. New Richmond's qualifiers included: Jovani Perez Sanchez, Ian Sheetz and Alex Jarchow. Jarchow finished third overall.
The third place finishing team included: Jarchow, Perez Sanchez, Sheetz and Shaye Jacobson
The Rice Lake meet included teams from Rice Lake, Menomonie and New Richmond with about 100 competitors combined and 15 from New Richmond.
Winners at the Rice Lake meet included: countdown round finalists — Cal Eckardt, Perez Sanchez, Jarcho and Sheetz, who placed third overall. Sheetz finished in first place in the Algebra sprint round. In the Geometry sprint round, Jarchow finished in first place while Perez Sanchez finished third.
The team of Sheetz, Blattner, Eckardt and Stuedemann finished in first place in the Algebra team round, while the team of Cassie Dolezal, Izzy Skramstad and Claire Zdroik finished in third place in the Geometry team round.
