Area band and choir assemble for honors concert

Band and choir students from six western Wisconsin school districts performed a concert in River Falls, Saturday, Jan. 10 -- culminating 30 hours of intense preparation under college instructors brought in by the St. Croix Valley Music Educators Association.

Students came from Hudson, Baldwin-Woodville, Ellsworth, New Richmond, Prescott and River Falls high schools.

SCVMEA, under the leadership of current president Bryan Jaeckel of River Falls High School, meets monthly to plan activities for the enrichment of students and professional development of its members.

Students applied and auditioned to win the opportunity to participate. Rehearsals were held all day Friday and Saturday morning. Dr. Laura Sindberg, visiting associate professor of music at Lawrence University, directed the honors band while Tim Sawyer, director of choral activities at Northwestern College in St. Paul, led the honors choir.

Both groups presented performances Saturday afternoon at River Falls High School before a full house in the school auditorium.
