UPDATE: Student injured in SCC middle school parking lot crash

A St. Croix Central Middle School student suffered substantial injuries after the car she was riding in collided with one of the metal barrier posts near the front enterance of the middle school at about 9:30 a.m. this morning, according to Hammond Police Chief Rick Coltrain and SCC School District Superintendent Tim Widiker. 

The student suffered injuries to her legs and abdomen, but was in stable condition when she was transported to Regions Hospital. The driver of the car and a second young girl were also in the car at the time of the accident, but sustained only minor injuries. Both the driver and the second girl were taken to the Baldwin Area Medical Center to be treated for their injuries and have since been released. The current condition of the girl transported taken Regions is unknown at this time. 

The St. Croix Central School District issued the following message to parents, teachers and the community: 

At approximately 9:30 this morning there was a one-vehicle accident in front of the middle school. An adult driver hit one of the metal barrier posts near the front entrance. One of the passengers was a middle school student and was injured. The child was in stable condition and taken via ambulance to an area hospital with her mother. The area is secure and all other students are safe and unharmed. Thank you to the Hammond PD, St. Croix County Sheriff Dept., Baldwin EMS and United Fire and Rescue for their assistance. If your child has any concerns regarding this incident please encourage them to talk to their teacher or school counselor.
